UPDATE ON 2ND CHANCE:
Dr. Phil Chitwood, a Poteau, OK vet, has quoted the surgery for 2nd Chance at $895, that is with his discount for the Humane Society. 2nd Chance is responding well to the antibiotics, food and water and lots of love and attention from volunteers. 2nd Chance can even be adopted after he has been rehabilitated. Oh my goodness I hate it when animals are not treated with respect. I hate it when they are abused. A coworker sent me an e-mail with this photo and the following message:
This is 2nd Chance. He was brought into the humane society Saturday by one of the volunteers who found him at a ball park in AR. Notice his right hind foot which has been drug almost completely off. We don't know if this is a case of neglect, abuse, cruelty or just what has happened to him. We know that he will have to have extensive medical care and have the leg amputated when he is physically able to stand the surgery.
He has the absolute best temperament as he will let you hold the food dish while he is eating; something most starving dogs would never let anyone do. He is so grateful for the sanctuary we have provided for him. The soft bed of old comforters, the food, water and pain medicine we are giving him along with antibiotics and the kind words are surely something he has not had in a long time. He is an older dog, maybe even too old to do the surgery on, but I surely hope not. I think he deserves his 2nd Chance, don't you?
